Package: x2goclient
Severity: important
Qt4 will have end of life in 2017. X2Go Client and other X2Go
componets (e.g., X2Go Desktop Sharing) will be affected by that.
See [1] for reference.
Greets,
Mike

Message #10 received at 864@bugs.x2go.org (full text, mbox, reply):
As mentioned here, code can be ported to Qt5 while retaining
compatibility with Qt4:
http://blog.qt.io/blog/2012/12/19/qt-5-0/
If/when we do port to Qt5, we should maintain compatibility with Qt4.
For example, RHEL 7 & CentOS 7 include Qt4, but not Qt5. Qt5 is
available from EPEL, but EPEL makes Qt5 follow EPEL's rolling-release
model. So to reduce risk to our users, we should keep the EL7 builds
on Qt4.

Hi,
any update about this bug?
x2goclient is one a the few packages that prevent me from purging Qt4 from my systems.

Control: severity -1 grave

I raise severity of the Qt5 porting issue of X2Go Client. Qt4 has
become really really unmaintained now and I will refuse X2Go Client
shipping in Debian 10, if it has not been ported to Qt5 entirely.
It may well be that Qt4 won't make it into the Debian 10 release cycle
anyway... There is still plenty of time (+/- 2.5 yrs...), but time is
rushing, you know...
Speaking with my Debian-Developer-and-X2Go-Maintainer-in-Debian hat
on, this is.

Hi everyone,
I know someone who would probably be able to do it from a technical
point of view, but so far, I haven't been able to motivate him to
volunteer for us.
IOW -> ETASKNEEDSMONEY
How about all of us start poking our commercial X2GoClient users?
If we distribute the costs among all of them, costs per individual
should be easily bearable.

How about adding an alert on the x2go landing page, asking for
volunteers and/or funding? (I don't have commercial X2GoClient
users...)

thanks to all contributors! QT5 port is ready. Next mission is QT6. I would open an issue about QT6 porting on https://gitlab.x2go.org/x2go/client/x2goclient and Stefan want to open a fundraising on https://www.betterplace.org/de/projects/111056-x2go
If you have further comments please address them to https://gitlab.x2go.org/x2go/
