After a few hours of running a certain tool (Cadence - unfortunately not open source), we see a sudden slowdown where the whole session reacts very very slowly and screen refreshes also very slowly. The load on the server is not significant and the server also has plenty of memory. Sometimes, if we leave it alone for a few minutes, it can recover, but not always. If we open another session in parallel, that new session is fine.
