I've got the same issue with Ubuntu 12.04 and a standalone eclipse installation though it seems to crash rather randomly a few seconds after eclipse is started.
Unfortunately, I can't upgrade juste one library (libcairo2-dev) which has many dependencies without messing around with the system...

So, is there a way to disable xrender extension ? (IIRC there was an option like that in NX Client) or any other workaround ?
